Phosphene 3.6.0 — a 5-second Hailuo H3 clip in about 8 minutes, and a UI that only shows what your engine can do
I rendered 36 shots for a music film overnight on one Mac with this build. Most of them took about 8 minutes each. Here is how to get that, and what else changed.
How to get an 8-minute clip
- Update in Pinokio, open the Video tab, and pick Hailuo H3 in the engine switcher (now top right).
- Quality → Standard · Length → 5s
- Speed → Turbo. If you have not installed the adapter yet the pill offers it — one click, ~0.8 GB.
- Drop in a first-frame image if you have one. Image-conditioned renders are markedly better than text-only.
That is ~8 minutes for 5 seconds with synchronised audio, on an M4 Max.
Want it prettier? Quality → High is a true 16:9 canvas at ~8-9 min. Native is the full 1344×768 at ~20 min and it is visibly cleaner — that is the honest trade, and now it is one click instead of an impossible combination.
Quality and Length are separate now
The old six-preset menu quietly made most combinations impossible — the best canvas could only ever make 5-second clips. Now you pick both:
Quality: Draft 640×384 · Standard 768×448 · High 1024×576 (16:9) · Native 1344×768
Length: 3s · 5s · 10s · 15s
Every combination renders. The time estimates are computed per combination from a cost model fitted to real renders, and the two top canvases carry measured end-to-end numbers rather than guesses.
The engine picker moved, and the UI stopped lying
It sits in the top right now as a segmented control with a mark per engine, drawn from a registry — so a third engine is one table entry, not a rewrite.
More importantly, every control is now scoped to the engine that can actually run it. With H3 selected you no longer see Character, FFLF, Keyframes, Extend, Remix, Enhance or Avoid — H3 renders none of those. Avoid did literally nothing on H3: the model is guidance-distilled, so there is no negative prompt at all. There is a note in its place explaining what does work.
Also: Load Params restores the engine and its settings instead of half of them, and confirms visibly rather than succeeding in silence. Speed shows two comparable times. Export is called Upscale. Steps is back where you can find it. A true 16:9 render exports to 720p and 1080p as a clean scale with no letterbox bars.
Install no longer loops forever
If your install failed, Phosphene used to retry it automatically, forever, showing shell restarts instead of the actual error. It now stops, tells you what broke, and offers Reset. That bug has been in every release since v2.0.0 — thanks @natxou for the screenshot that made it findable.
And the header badge has been claiming "3.0" since, well, 3.0. It reads the real version now.
